Studying for the AP exam part 3
I have started reviewing past notes I had on Macbeth, Beowulf, and
Hamlet. I figure that it's probably going to be on
Dr. Preston's final because they are the key books
We spend a lot of time in. I have also stated answering the
Multiple choice questions on the blog.

AP Exam Study Plan #2
My first post was to study the literary terms, I have started studying them more and
looking at examples to reinforce my understanding. Another element of the AP exam I found out
that I would nee help with are essays. In English we took an essay on Macbeth. I felt confident
but I realize I had a lot of ideas and I really didn't know how to structure essay. My plan
to improve my essays is to go on the blog and read other students essays in order to gain
some ideas.
"A Reflection on Unstructured Learning"
From reading the text I feel the theme was "Self -Identity". I came to this conclusion by what
the author provided in the text. The narrator talking about always working on his costume and taking
time to work out after and before work. What really caught my attention was his statement about self-doubt
self ridicule, From this statement we realize that the narrator does have doubts in what he is doing.
But by the end of the text the narrator establishes his name and all thought of self-doubt and self-
Identity is gone.

Macbeth Lecture
Macbeth- Violent hero, and individual Identity.
Act 5- Later in the play we find Macbeth without his heroism, and Individualism.
Dramatic Irony- He doesn't reveal himself, No relationship between himself and the audience, No humanity!
Instead- We see elements of Macbeth thought process and how its similar to ours.
Shakespeare more desirable character(Macbeth).
Tragic Hero- Macbeth starts with friends and honor by the end of the play he is alone and without a place.
Macbeth decisions- He makes his own decisions, His not being pushed by others.
Murder of Duncan
Reason- Its a part of him that wants to, But a part of him that disapproves of the act.
Desire of BECOMING KING=DISAPPROVE.
Macbeth knows the consequence of killing of politics.
Holding him back- breaking the rule that keeps society together.
Lady Macbeth is pure evil encouraging Hamlet to kill Duncan.
Animus=Lady Macbeth
Macbeth is filled with sorrow and horror.
He feels that their is no turning back.
After his killing Macbeth feels total regret.
Macbeth is King
Macbeth has no admirable aspect.
He becomes overwhelmed with fear.
His courage is with outward enemies, NOT!!! with inward enemies.
Lady Macbeth is consumed by the inner torment of encouraging Macbeth of killing Duncan.
Lady Macbeth ultimately kills herself.
Plan to study for the AP Exam

Lit Analyses "Salem's Lot" by Stephen King
In the novel our main characters Ben Mears. He returns back to his hometown of Jerusalem Lot (Salem's Lot). In the story we find out that he is a writer but is lacking the key element needing to write something new, From his point of view by returning home he hopes to find that Inspiration. In the novel we see Ben falling in love with Susan, Throughout the story we see strange things happening in the mansion first with a murder and a suicide, but as the story starts to unravel Ben realizes that outside forces are playing key roles in the events taking place in Salem's Lot(Vampires), Ultimately Ben takes the responsibility by killing the head vampire and burning Salem's Lot to the ground killing all the infected residents.
From my perspective the theme of the novel is the idea of "Belief" Throughout the story we encounter each character having different levels of belief. Some easily take in the fact that their are vampires while others in the other hand have a harder time understanding that vampires actually exist. For example Mark Petrie has a greater belief in vampires which helps him survive longer then any other characters.
When reading this novel I found the tone to be dark and mysterious. Like many of Stephen Kings novels dark and gloomy tend to be one of the ways he keeps the reader on his toes. Another example are the actions that take place in the novel, For example the murders that take place throughout the novel.
The different elements that helped me understand the novel more clearly was the dark and gloomy tone presented in the novel which created a sense of terror, The second element was Foreshadowing we see this in the novel in the beginning of the novel when we hear of the murder and suicide that take place in the mansion, In the story Symbolism also plays a major role, in the novel the mansion has great significance because of the dark gloomy element, The diction presented in the novel gives the reader a sense of mystery and fear because of the events that take place, Flashbacks also play a key role, As the reader we encounter flashbacks when Ben looks back at his childhood when he used to live in Salem's Lot.

Historical background of Macbeth
Shakespeare got his story from Raphael Holinshed's Chronicle.
In that time the pressure made war and even the slaughter of one community by another a fact of life.
The name "Macbeth" means son of life, His father Findleech was ruler of Moray.
Lady Macbeth was originally married to Gillacomgain but Macbeth murdered him then raised his step son Lucan as his own.
Duncan killed his enemies, Then became king, Then married sibyna Rearsson and the had Malcolm.
Macbeth and Thor finn killed Duncan and both took over power of the kingdom.
Macbeth is known to be a great king, But in the last decade he was known as a harsh king.
Shakespeare's Macbeth is an intelligent man while Buchannan's depiction of Macbeth is a cruel barbarous man.
The purpose Shakespeare wrote Macbeth was simply to entertain the royals and introduce Macbeth's guilty conscience as a way to intrigue and compliment King James.

Lit analyses "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett
The novel I chose to read was "The Help", Many don't know but Th Help was another word for house maids specifically African American maids. The story takes place in Jackson, Mississippi where abolition was a key element in that area. The main characters are Aibileen, Minny, and Skeeter. Throughout the novel we see two perspectives that of Skeeter's and Aibileen. The point of view of Skeeter we see house wives living a fantasy where they are giving everything in a silver platter but most importantly they don't know anything about the outside and find themselves ignoring their own children. In the other hand we have the pespective from "The Help" Where we see the poverty side of Mississippi and the day to day persecution they go through. We see "The Help" becoming almost second mothers to the kids they take care for. An example would be Aibileen and her care for Mae Mobley Leefolt and how she treated her as her own child.
From my point of view the theme of the novel is the idea of "Perspective", We see perspective play a major role in the novel. In the novel we have two perspectives that of white Americans and the black community. As a result of this two perspectives we see the flaws both communities have, but we also see them grow and ultimately fix their faults and become aware of the bigger picture surrounding the whole community.
The tone of the novel had three parts to it, It can be at time comical and informative but in many of the chapters text we sense a tone of sorrow because of the ongoing persecution the characters go through.
We see symbolism, tone, setting, imagery, and Mood in the novel. Symbolism would probably be the book depicting the society are in, Setting also helps reader establish the fact that abolition is a key factor of whats happening in that society during that time, Tone is a mix between comical, informative, and sad because the book contains all three elements throughout the whole novel. The mood establishes the overall mood and describes how and what situation each character is coming from. Imagery is seen in Jackson, Mississippi and the two divided communities the novel describes, both communities share each others hardships and almost similar situations they go through.

Three top Remix Videos
#1 Jessica Parra The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
I found this remix to be very interesting because of the various elements it contained.
What first caught my attention was the music selection, I personally have not read this novel but by the song that she selected I could tell it was a horror/mystery novel.
The images she provided and the little plot overview she game really gave me a sense of what the novel was about.
#2 Marisol Zepeda The Tortilla Curtain
The Images she provided enforced what the plot of the novel was.
In addition to the images she provided the theme of the novel which was "The American Dream" which was clear to the viewer by the images that were provided.
#3 Trevor Hudgens The Scarlet Letter
I found the video to be very interesting because of the fact that it was structured differently from the videos I saw with images and music. This video in the other hand was very informative and provided the key points.

Socratic Seminar Notes
Ask Questions!!!
In the discussion we primarily focused on the fact that many students in high school don't ask enough questions.
Most students are too embarrassed! to ask their questions from fear of what other students may think of them.
We all came to the conclusion that we are in school to learn and as individuals should not be embarrassed of what questions we ask because we are learning.
We also analyzed the St. Crispin's day speech.
We came up with the fact that its an easy poem to analyze and its basically a pumped up speech before a major battle.
